Where’s JENNY for my Macbook?

by Raju Bitter on December 14, 2008

You’ll all know the scenario: you are traveling a lot, on the train, plane, visiting your customers – and suddenly your notebook’s battery is out of power! And there’s no plug around near you to recharge it.

2009 might brings us a solution to that problem, something like the JENNY 600S fuel cell by SFC, or the Panasonic fuel cell prototype which was shown in October 2008 at the Hydrogen Energy Advanced Technology Exhibition 2008. Here’s a description of JENNY 600S from the Smart Fuel Cell (SFC) website:

The JENNY 600S is a light, portable fuel cell by SFC for deployment in defense scenarios. It can either be worn on the body or can be used to operate remote devices in the field. The JENNY 600S makes current available completely automatically in any kind of weather, in any season and in any kind of climate with 100% reliability.
The JENNY 600S can power a number of electrical devices such as digital communications and navigation systems, computer and laser tracking devices, remote sensors, cameras and metering devices.

Well, I’m not really active in defense scenarios, but JENNY would still be very useful if I could get my new shiny MacbookPro running for more than 3 hours on the standard battery. SFC is based out of Germany near Munich, maybe I should call them and see if they’d be interested in me testing their portable fuel cell system with my Mac.
