SapphireSteel announced 2nd beta of VisualStudio IDE for Flex

by Raju Bitter on January 16, 2009

Sapphire Steel just released a 2nd beta version of the Amethyst, a editing and project management environment for developing Adobe Flex and AIR applications using Visual Studio. Thanks to Marco Casario for pointing me to Amethyst through Twitter!

That will make Flex development certainly a lot more interesting for .NET specialist and all users of Microsoft Visual Studio. There are already a lot of tools available for building Flex applications, the most prominent probably being Adobe Flex Builder and the Flex extension for IntelliJ. I doubt that any RIA platform will be successful any more unless there are good tools or IDE plugins available for the platforms. Flex has definitely a good number of tools available supporting ActionScript3, AIR and Flex development.
